As we struggle through, aghast at the several unrelated shootings, some involving young children, sick patients in hospitals, patrons in restaurants and I've honestly lost count now… I question, isn't it about time that the United States accept that the second amendment that justifies 'the right to bear arms' was written for a time when violence, looting, gangs of bandits and protecting one’s family and property was crucial.
Times have changed (or have they?); Life has evolved and human beings and humanity are continually advancing (or are they?).
Unfortunately, rules, laws and things that were written for a different time are held on to and maintained despite the advancement..
It perplexes me and makes me wonder how an 18 year-old young adult can purchase both, a rifle and a hand gun, walk into a school …an elementary school…unnoticed and shoot, kill and maim innocent children!
Questions in my head...
What is it going to take to change a country (and a world) that gives more importance to armament than to compassion, tolerance and acceptance?
What leads one human being to take another’s life?
How have we evolved from the stone and middle ages?
President Biden can ask all the questions he wants... “When are we going to stand up to the gun lobby? Why do we keep letting this happen? Why are we willing to live with this carnage?"
What does it change?
If you, as Head of State cannot lay down the law and stop the insanity, what exactly is your purpose?
There is no sign that we will get any closer to passing tighter gun control legislation. There are more guns than people in USA.
Something is definitely wrong with this picture!
And to make it worse, some even use this latest bout of shooting to further their own political objectives and agendas and I can’t help but imagine how low a (supposedly God-fearing) society can stoop when they have to resort to propagandize and sensationalize tragedies!
Why are guns more important than the lives of children?
I have more questions...
With more than 27 school shootings this year alone, and only 10 days since the mass shooting in New York, how could security at the school have been so lax?
How does a young man even walk into a school with two guns?
How many more innocent lives are you willing to lose?
Then, on top of everything resorting to the blame game…blaming the police, the teachers, and everybody they can think of rather than blame their own antiquated law that puts guns into the hands of insane, psychotic, murderous, hatred-filled individuals!
All I can think of to say is that this is nothing but mass collective incompetence and hallucinogenic ignorance by being poisoned by their own drugs and a complete disregard for human life and sentiment!
The USA has always prided itself as the most powerful nation in the world, leading the world in its ‘wise’ footsteps.
Well, thank you for also teaching the rest of the world how not to be, and here’s what I have to say to them…
We’ve learned a lot…I mean A LOT from your mistakes, which you keep making over and over again.
Your racism, classism, sensationalism, methods of shifting blame and a blatant disregard for Humanity and human unity, even in your own country, is now working against you!
Well done! Welcome to a downfall of your own making!
I found a poem I wrote. The first, when we in Nova Scotia experienced a similar situation, around the time COVID first started. It was included in ‘Gathering In’, an anthology of Covid writings by Nova Scotia writers, artists and songwriters, published by WindyWood Publishing.
A Study in Isolation…
This poem was written against the senseless violence…the shootings in Nova Scotia as well as the racial
violence in the USA and in other parts of the world…
We are already suffering the consequences of COVID-19. Violence only makes the present situation even
worse. I wrote this on behalf of the people who havelost someone to the senseless acts of violence.

Rain tapping
on my window,
skies blanketed
by heavy clouds,
fierce winds of growing concern
bellowing down on my spirit
eroding my sensibilities
My face,
kissed by the rosy flush
of maddening aggravating thoughts…
…as we stand proud…
oblivious to our brutality, our ignorance
and our insensitivity…
...conquering, decimating, annihilating
whomever, however, whenever,
in whichever way we are able to…

Through this,
I miss you every second
of every minute
of every hour
of every day…
And, if I could
miss you more,
I most certainly would
